An rv water tank needs to be cleaned at least once a year in order to prevent bacteria from growing in the system.
Sanitize rv water tank with spa chlorine.
If you have a 20 gallon freshwater tank on your rv you d need 2 5 ounces of bleach to sanitize your system.
Take that amount of bleach you ve calculated for your specific rv and add it to at least a gallon of water.
Top up the fresh water tank with water again.
Set your water heater temperature to over 130 degrees while it is off.
Open the taps throughout your rv and let them run through until the system runs empty.
You should dilute it first.
Fill the fresh water tank almost completely full of potable water.
Ideally the chlorinated wastewater should be legally disposed into a sewer network.
There s no need to let the solution sit in the lines as you do with a vinegar cleanse.
Let it sit for 4 hours minimum over night is better.
Run the chlorinated water through all lines hot and cold one at a time for one or two minutes you should be able to smell the chlorine.
Mix the bleach with water into a one gallon container and pour it into the fresh water holding tank.
Go for a 10 to 15 minute casual drive to let it mix around in the tank.
While you are taking care of the tank consider activating the rv s pump to sterilize its water lines as well.
Top up the fresh water tank with water.
Don t add the bleach straight to your freshwater tank.
Now you can enjoy safe water from your cleaned and disinfected water storage tanks.
Turn the water pump on open all hot and cold faucets and run the water until you smell the bleach at each faucet.
1 5 cups of bleach for every 6 gallons for a 60 gallon tank.
1 cup of bleach is good for every 4 gallons of water if the tank is a 40 gallon tank.
What you can do instead is to sanitize your rv fresh water tank using bleach.
We show you how to thoroughly sanitize both hot and cold sides of your rv s fresh water system.
You can do this by pouring chlorine bleach and clean water into the tank.
Fill your fresh water tank with at least 15 gallons of a 50 50 solution of water and white vinegar.
For a 100 gallon tank you can use 2 cups for every 8 gallons of water.
Open your kitchen faucet and run your water pump until water comes out and you smell vinegar.
Don t have a winterizing kit.
Refill the cleaned and disinfected tank with potable water.
Drain all the water you can from your water system and hot water tank.
